At Practical Massage Therapy, we create a peaceful and safe space to encourage an environment of open communication to facilitate health, balance and self-awareness. Our therapists bring mindfulness, experience, patience and compassion to their sessions to create a unique experience of healing, relaxation and rejuvenation for each client. It is our intention to be fully present, receptive and committed to meeting your needs. We are here to help you discover how bodywork can help you relax and be more fully present in your life.
In 1999, after Renee had 2 years of practicing massage in the spa world, she realized that she wanted more freedom and control over her practice and who she worked on. She found the spa world to be more focused on basic Swedish massage, and with her training in various bodywork modalities, she wanted the freedom to practice more therapeutically to help clients experience better and more lasting results. She started out offering chair massage at Wild Oats in Green Hills and built a private practice from there.
In 2000, as she was looking for a new office space to expand, a client who was a web designer came up with the name Practical Massage because he felt that this therapeutic focus was so practical for him and made such a difference in his life...the name stuck! And Practical Massage Therapy was born. We were located on Belmont Blvd for 10 years and fell in love with the Belmont/12 South neighborhood.
When our 12 South location was just a drawing, we jumped at the chance to be in a new building that would be built for us in such a great part of the neighborhood and moved to in 2010.
In 2018 our studio was flooded by a sudden pipe burst, which we took as a sign to move on to our own home. In January 2019, we settled into our new ranch-style, private studio on Greystone Rd. in the Berry Hill area. Our new studio is tucked away on a quite dead-end road with our own private parking lot.
The philosophy for Practical Massage was to create an environment that is healthy, comfortable, professional, and one that takes care of the clients as well as the therapists who work here. Unlike many massage places that pay therapists an hourly, close to minimum wage rate, we ensure that our therapists are able to make a fair living wage. This ensures that you receive a great quality massage from a therapist that is taken care of and not over worked. When a therapist is able to work moderately and injury free and to make a career of massage instead of something they can only maintain for a few years, they are able to develop and hone their skills, providing great confidence and expertise in a massage.
We are proud that we have created a supportive environment for massage therapists to work and a nurturing environment for clients who are looking for a place to reflect, relax, unwind, and unplug.
Thank you for choosing Practical Massage Therapy for your massage needs and we look forward to seeing you soon!
